Pursuant to sections 406 and 410 of the Building Act 2004 (“Act”), I give notice of the adoption of eight corrections to The Seismic Assessment of Existing Buildings: Technical Guidelines for Engineering Assessments, July 2017, Version 1 (“Engineering Assessment Guidelines”). The Engineering Assessment Guidelines are incorporated by reference into the Earthquake-prone Building Methodology set under section 133AV of the Act on 3 July 2017. The Engineering Assessment Guidelines give technical methods for engineering assessments of buildings under the Act’s earthquake-prone building regime.
Amendments to the Engineering Assessment Guidelines
The Engineering Assessment Guidelines are expected to be reviewed regularly to ensure they remain current and up-to-date with engineering building science. A working group commissioned by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (“MBIE”) to review Section C5 (Concrete Buildings) within the Engineering Assessment Guidelines has identified some incorrect equations and symbol definitions. Eight corrections have been amended in Section C5 (Concrete Buildings) and are published as an Errata to Version 1 of the Engineering Assessment Guidelines. Amendments may be proposed to other parts of Section C5 once the wider review of the section is completed.

The corrections are available free of charge in the published errata to Version 1 of the Engineering Assessment Guidelines, The Seismic Assessment of Existing Buildings Errata 1: Corrections to Equations in Section C5. The errata can be accessed on the MBIE and EQ-Assess websites:
