Notification of Ordinary Rule

Pursuant to section 161(3) of the Land Transport Act 1998, notification is hereby given of the making of Land Transport Rule: Light-vehicle Brakes Amendment 2014 ("the Rule").
The Rule requires that new light motor vehicles entering service in New Zealand on or after 1 July 2015 must be fitted with electronic stability control (ESC). The Rule also sets out a phased introduction of ESC for used light motor vehicles entering New Zealand over the period 2016 to 2020. A requirement to maintain an ESC system in good working order will apply to all vehicles that are already fitted with ESC.
The Rule comes into force on 1 July 2015.
The Rule is available for inspection, free of charge, at the National Office of the NZ Transport Agency, 50 Victoria Street, Wellington and at the NZ Transport Agency's regional offices.
