In accordance with section 161(2) of the Land Transport
Act 1998, the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA), on behalf
of the Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to make a Rule that proposes amendments to
Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass 2002 (Rule 41001) (the Vehicle Dimensions and Mass Rule) and advises that this amendment Rule is available for public comment.
Draft Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass Amendment [(No 2) 2009] (Rule 41001/5) will amend the Vehicle Dimensions and Mass Rule to broaden the grounds on which a heavy motor vehicle can operate in terms of weight and, in some cases, length.
The changes would introduce a high-productivity motor vehicle permit system that would allow vehicles to operate on approved routes at greater mass and dimensions than currently allowed.

The draft Rule is also available for viewing at the NZTA’s regional offices.
Groups and individuals who have registered an interest in the Rule have been advised of the availability of the draft Rule.
