Declaration by Chief Electoral Officer That Charles Pierre Chauvel is Elected a

Member of Parliament
WHEREAS—
A. I have received a warrant from Her Excellency the Governor-General, to supply a member of Parliament to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of James Robert Sutton pursuant to section 55 (1) (f) of the Electoral Act 1993;
B. Under section 137 (2) of the Electoral Act 1993, I have determined that of the unelected candidates on the party list of the New Zealand Labour Party, Charles Pierre Chauvel stood highest in the order of preference on that list;
C. Under section 137 (3) of that Act, I have asked the Secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party whether Charles Pierre Chauvel remains a member of that party and I have been informed by the Secretary of the
New Zealand Labour Party that he remains a member of that party;
D. Under section 137 (4) of that Act, I have asked Charles Pierre Chauvel whether he is willing to be a member of Parliament and he has indicated his willingness to be a member of Parliament.
THEREFORE, pursuant to section 137 (4) of that Act,
I, Robert Andrew Peden, Chief Electoral Officer, declare
Charles Pierre Chauvel
to be elected a member of Parliament.
