Declaring Maori Freehold Land to be Included in a Maori Reservation

Pursuant to section 338 (2) of Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993, on the recommendation of the Maori Land Court, the Maori freehold land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby declared to be included in the existing Maori reservation in respect of the land known as Awapuni 1L2G, which was set apart for the purpose of a recreation ground, sports ground and place of historical interest for the common use and benefit of the Maori people of the Gisborne East Coast District and the people of New Zealand, by notice published in the New Zealand Gazette, 24 February 1983, No. 23, page 498.
This was then redefined and made for the purpose of a recreation ground, sports ground and a place of historic interest for the common use and benefit of, firstly, Ngai Tawhiri and, secondly, the Maori of Gisborne, East Coast, by notice published in the New Zealand Gazette, 27 June 1991, No. 96, page 2115.
