Special Needs Grant Amendment 2001

Pursuant to section 124 (1) (d) of the Social Security Act 1964, the Minister of Social Services and Employment establishes and approves the following amendment to the Special Needs Grant Programme (as established and approved on 18 December 1998).

A m e n d m e n t
1. Title-(1) This is the Special Needs Grants Amendment 2001.
(2) In this amendment, the Special Needs Grants Programme is referred to as "the Programme".
2. Commencement-This amendment comes into effect on the day after the date on which the Minister establishes and approves it.
3. Emergency Relocation Costs-Clause 15.5.9 of the Programme is amended by omitting paragraph (a) and substituting the following paragraphs:
"(a) in the case of an Applicant who relocates to Australia on or before 26 February 2001, the end of the Australian waiting period:"
"(aa) in the case of any other Applicant, the end of the period of 12 months that begins on the date the Applicant relocates to Australia:"

Explanatory Note:
This note is not part of the amendment, but is intended to explain its general effect.
This amendment to the Special Needs Grant Welfare Programme is consequential to changes to New Zealanders' eligibility for social security benefits in Australia. The amendment provides that the maximum period during which living expenses grants can be made under the emergency relocation provisions of the programme is 12 months for applicants who are relocated after 26 February 2001.
