Note: Section 5 (2) of the Social Security Act 1964 requires that a direction made under section 5 (1) by the Minister to the Chief Executive of the Department of Work and Income must be published in the New Zealand Gazette as soon as practicable after it is given.

Due to an error, the Direction in relation to the Special Benefit Amendment (made on 22 March 1999) has not been previously published.
Note that the Schedule to the Direction has since been amended on 27 March 2000 (published in the New Zealand Gazette,
30 March 2000, pages 724-5).
Direction in Relation to Special Benefit
To: The Chief Executive, Department of Work and Income.
Pursuant to section 5 of the Social Security Act 1964, I, ROGER SOWRY, Minister of Social Services, Work and Income, direct that on and after 1 April 1999, the Schedule set out in the Schedule of this direction is to be read together with and deemed part of the Direction dated 10 February 1999 that I gave you in relation to grants of special benefit, in place of the Schedule set out in that Direction.

Explanatory Note:
This note is not part of the Direction but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This direction, made by the Minister of Social Services, Work and Income under section 5 (2) of the Social Security Act 1964, amends the direction given by the Minister on 10 February 1999 relating to the grant of special benefit.
The Schedule substitutes the former Schedule and adjusts standards costs to take into account a CPI increase of 0.37%.
The increases come into force on the 1st day of April 1999.
