Summary of Exemptions Granted by the Director of Civil Aviation

Pursuant to section 37 of the Civil Aviation Act 1990, notification is hereby given of a summary of exemptions, set out in the Schedule hereto, granted by the Director of Civil Aviation.

To: Airways Corporation of New Zealand Limited.
From the requirement in: Civil Aviation Rule 172.57 (b) that an applicant for an aerodrome control service, or an aerodrome flight information service, is to establish procedures to ensure that any aerodrome mobile tower listed in the applicant's exposition is provided with facilities as prescribed,
Only with respect to:
(a) CAR 172.57 (b) (xi) status monitors for approach and landing aids and any road or rail signalling equipment affecting the use of a runway; and
(b) CAR 172.57 (b) (xvii), if applicable, airfield lighting controls panel.
This exemption shall apply until the 31st day of July 2000 unless withdrawn earlier in writing by the Director.

On: 2 August 2000.
From the requirement in: Civil Aviation Rule 125.367 that each holder of an air operator certificate shall ensure each of its aeroplanes is equipped with a cockpit voice recorder,
Only with respect to: Douglas DC-3 aircraft, registration
ZK-AMS and ZK-AWP.
This exemption shall apply until 1 January 2003 unless withdrawn earlier in writing by the Director.

To: Air New Zealand Limited
From the requirement in: Civil Aviation Rule 91.529 (a) that (with exceptions not applicable in this case) each aircraft shall have an automatic ELT installed which meets the specifications as prescribed in Civil Aviation Rule Part 91, Appendix A, paragraph A.15
Only with respect to: Boeing 737-33R aircraft registration ZK-SJB, provided that:
(a) The aircraft has two ELT's installed that met the
TSO C126 requirements for transmitting on 406MHZ; and
(b) Only flight crew and engineering staff essential for the test flight are carried.
This exemption shall remain valid only for 13 August 2000.
Notice of the grant, withdrawal or denial of exemptions
with provisos is published in the Civil Aviation Rules Register Information Leaflet (CARRIL).
For the proviso, refer to issue dated 24 August 2000.
