Approval of Code of Practice for the Attachment of Logging Bolsters to Trucks and Trailers Used in the Transport of Logs Pursuant to regulation 16a (1) (f) of the Heavy Motor Vehicle Regulations 1974, and pursuant to powers sub-delegated to me by the Director of Land Transport Safety, I, Peter Waring, Senior Engineer, hereby determine that the Code of Practice specified in Schedule 1 may be used as a standard for the attachment of logging bolsters to trucks and trailers used for the transport of logs, subject to the conditions specified in Schedule 2. Bolsters and their attachments designed in accordance with the Code of Practice shall be certified, such certification to be only by specialist certifiers approved by the Land Transport Safety Authority and supported by the recommendation of the Log Transport Safety Committee. Schedule 1 Bolster Attachment Code (Issue 27th November 1998) issued on behalf of the Log Transport Safety Committee. Schedule 2 1. Individual bolsters shall be identified as specified in the Code of Practice. 2. Vehicles equipped with bolsters designed and certified in accordance with the Code of Practice shall be fitted with at least one identifying tag per vehicle identifying the bolsters, bolster attachment, bolster attachment load ratings, the vehicle and the certification expiry date, the tag to be compatible with the requirements of NZS 5444. 3. Vehicles equipped with bolsters certified to the Code of Practice are exempted from the requirement for extra safety chains imposed by the Fact Sheet issued by the Land Transport Safety Authority on 7 August 1997. 4. Vehicles shall be operated at all times within the load ratings to which the bolster attachments have been certified. 5. Bolster attachment certification shall be immediately and permanently revoked subsequent to any occasion on which the vehicle has been operated at a load in excess of the load for which the bolster attachments are certified. 6.
