Control of Lake Taupo Water Level Pursuant to section 6 of the Lake Taupo Compensation Claims Act 1947 (``the Act''), and further to my notice of 21 July 1998 (New Zealand Gazette, No. 95, page 2198), I give notice that on 3 August 1998, the waters of Lake Taupo returned to a level below the maximum working level of 357.387 metres above sea level Moturiki datum (1956 survey) specified in section 2 of the Act. That level had been exceeded at 1 p.m. on 15 July 1998. At noon on 17 July 1998, the Lake Taupo Control Gates, being the works defined in section 2 of the Act, had been lifted from the water and ceased to be used in part to control the waters of Lake Taupo.
