Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki) for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Hikutu Hapū) Notice 2022 (Notice No. MPI 1487)

Pursuant to Regulation 10 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

1. Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Hikutu Hapū) Notice 2022.

2. Commencement

This notice comes into force on 20 May 2022.

3. Customary Food Gathering Area/rohe Moana

This notice applies to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana in the New Zealand fisheries waters described in the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice MPI 1249 (New Zealand Gazette, 27 January 2021, Notice No. 2021-go266), which is in the Hokianga area encompassing some of the Hokianga Harbour from Kauri to Whekihana (Ferguson Point), and inland to Te Paraere and Te Wharate.

4. Tangata Whenua

The tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana is Te Hikutu Hapū.

5. Cancellation of Appointment

(1) The Minister for Oceans and Fisheries has cancelled the appointment of Peter Wallace as a tangata tiaki/kaitiaki for the rohe moana.

(2) The cancellation took effect on 6 May 2022.

6. Appointment

(1) The Minister for Oceans and Fisheries has appointed Whiu Waata as a tangata tiaki/kaitiaki for the rohe moana.

(2) The appointment took effect on 6 May 2022.
