Pursuant to section 32 of the Corrections Act 2004, the Minister of Corrections gives the following notice.

1. Title

This notice is the Corrections (Rimutaka Prison) Notice 2021.

2. Commencement

This notice takes effect from 5 April 2021.

3. Rimutaka Prison

The land and the parts of the buildings described in the Schedule are declared to be a corrections prison to be known as Rimutaka Prison.

4. Revocation

The Corrections (Rimutaka Prison) Notice 2017 (New Zealand Gazette, 16 March 2017, No. 29, 2017-go1145.) is revoked.

Rimutaka Prison

The parcels of land in the Wellington Land District containing 189.0363ha, more or less, being Pt Lot 1 on DP 89355, Section 8 on SO 34420, Section 1 on SO 34421, Section 20 on SO 37223, and Section 1 on SO 38011, and being all the land comprised and described in Record of Title 59688, Wellington Land Registry.

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice takes effect from 5 April 2021. The requirement for a new notice reflects the return of a portion of land back to Rimutaka Prison that was occupied by Arohata Prison. Deletion of the cells in Wellington District and High courts that are no longer required to help manage capacity.
