Notification of Proposed Marine Protection Rules

In accordance with section 446(a) and (b) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, Maritime New Zealand, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to make the following Marine Protection Rules:

Part 199: Prevention of Air Pollution From Ships

In preparation for New Zealand becoming a signatory to Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships 1973 (MARPOL), as modified by the Protocol of 1978, the proposed Part 199 of Marine Protection Rules contains provisions to enable New Zealand to implement Annex VI of MARPOL.

Comments are invited on the above proposed Part 199 developed under the Maritime Transport Act 1994.

Consultation will commence on Wednesday 7 July 2021.

The consultation document, draft rule amendments, and online submission form can be found at www.maritimenz.govt.nz/MARPOL.

Submissions must be made online or by email, post, or physical delivery by end of the day, Wednesday 4 August 2021.
