The Secretary for Education has made amendments to the Instructions relating to the operation of enrolment schemes issued under section 11G(2) of the Education Act 1989.

The amendments cover:

1. References to the Education Act 1989 have been updated to the appropriate sections of the Education and Training Act 2020.
2. Instruction 18 has been updated so that authorised persons are the same as those able to take oaths and statutory declarations as set out in the Oaths and Declarations Act 1957.
3. Requirements to give notice are updated to say a public notice must be “in a medium appropriate to the area served by the school”, to reflect modern communications methods. All related instructions have been amended accordingly.

The amendments will come into force on 1 January 2021.
