Fisheries (Maunganui Bay Temporary Closure) Notice 2020 (MPI 1245)

Pursuant to section 186A of the Fisheries Act 1996, the Minister of Fisheries, after complying with the requirements of that section, gives the following notice.

Notice

1. Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Maunganui Bay Temporary Closure) Notice 2020.

2. Commencement

This notice comes into force on 14 October 2020.

3. Revocation of this Notice

This notice is revoked on the close of 13 October 2022.

4. Maunganui Bay closed in respect of any species of fish, aquatic life, or seaweed (except kina)

(1) A person must not take any species of fish, aquatic life or seaweed (except kina) from Maunganui Bay while this notice is in force.

(2) In this clause,—

kina:

    1. means a shellfish of the species Evenchinus chloroticus (also known as a sea egg); and
    2. includes the shellfish of the species Centrostephanus rodgersii (also known as purple urchin)

Maunganui Bay means all those New Zealand fisheries waters enclosed by a line:  

    1. commencing at Kariparipa Point (at 35°11.350′S and 174°17.550′E); then
    2. proceeding in a straight line due west to a point at 35°11.350′S and 174°17.505′E; then
    3. proceeding in a straight line in a south-westerly direction to a point off the western side of Motuwheteke Island (at 35°12.010′S and 174°17.280′E); then
    4. proceeding in straight line in a south-south-easterly direction to a point at 35°12.265′S and 174°17.310′E, then
    5. proceeding in a straight line due east to the mean high-water mark; then
    6. proceeding along the mean high-water mark to the point of commencement.
