Dunedin City Council Emergency Speed Limits

Pursuant to section 7 (emergency speed limits) of the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2017, Dunedin City Council hereby advises that an emergency speed limit has been set as described in clauses 1 to 4 and in the location(s) detailed in the Schedule of this notice.

Notice

1. Title

This notice is the Dunedin City Council Emergency Speed Limits.

2. Commencement

This speed limit came into force on and from 15 May 2020.

3. Expiry

This speed limit expires on 15 December 2020 unless revoked prior to 15 December 2020.

4. Purpose

The purpose of this speed limit is to:

  1. manage speeds on sections of road within Dunedin City where pedestrians and road users may interact, in order to minimise the risk of death and serious injury during the COVID-19 pandemic; and
  2. allow time for the development and consultation on permanent speed limit changes on sections of road within Dunedin City Council.

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the bylaw, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This speed limit, which comes into force on and from 15 May 2020, and takes precedence over the Dunedin City Council Speed Limit Bylaw 2004–Amendment 9.

The Schedule of Speed Limits sets the speed limits on the sections of Highway/ Road listed.

The notice fulfils the requirements of section 7.2(6)(b) of the Land Transport Rule Setting of Speed Limits 2017.
