Approval of Lead Clinician to Provide Opioid Substitution Treatment Under Section 24A of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975

Acting under delegated authority from the Minister of Health, I, Dr John Crawshaw:

  1. Revoke the approval of the medical practitioner issued 15 March 2018 pursuant to section 24A(7)(a), of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 (New Zealand Gazette, 21 December 2017, Notice No. 2017-go6776); and
  2. Revoke the approval of the Bay of Plenty DHB Addiction Service issued 21 December 2017 pursuant to section 24A(7)(b) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 (New Zealand Gazette, 15 March 2018, Notice No. 2018-go1288); and
  3. Specify the Bay of Plenty Opioid Substitution (OST) Service as a service that may provide treatment with controlled drugs for people who are dependent on controlled drugs, pursuant to section 24A(7)(b) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 at the following places:

    Tauranga Hospital
    829 Cameron Road
    Tauranga 3112
    Te Puke Community Health Centre
    Cnr King Street and Commerce Lane
    Te Puke 3119
    Community Mental Health and Addiction Services Whakatane
    52 Commerce Street
    Whakatane 3079
    Katikati Community Centre
    45 Beach Road
    Katikati 3129; and

  4. Pursuant to section 24A(7)(a) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975, specify that Dr Branka Mijatovic, as a medical practitioner who may:
    1. prescribe, administer and supply controlled drugs for the treatment of dependence, as the lead clinician for Bay of Plenty Opioid Substitution Service;
    2. authorise in writing service/clinic medical practitioners as specified under section 24A(2)(b) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 to:
      1. prescribe, administer or supply controlled drugs for the treatment of dependence:
      2. authorise in writing general practitioners receiving clients from Bay of Plenty Opioid Substitution Service as specified under section 24A(2)(b) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975; and
    3. authorise in writing general practitioners receiving clients from Bay of Plenty Opioid Substitution Service as specified under section 24A(2)(b) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975.

Conditions

  1. Controlled drugs may only be prescribed, administered or supplied to people who are or have been clients of Bay of Plenty Opioid Substitution Service.
  2. This approval expires on 31 December 2020.
