Pursuant to sections 146, 156 and 156AA of the Education Act 1989, I hereby establish a Year 1–8 co-educational primary school in Broadwood to be known as Te Kura o Hata Maria (Pawarenga) and designate the school as a designated character school.

Te Kura o Hata Maria (Pawarenga) will operate the following aims, purposes and objectives which will together constitute its designated character:

• It will provide Māori immersion education and/or bilingual education.
• It will operate as a kura-a-iwi, localising its curriculum within the Te Uri o Tai sub-tribal group of Te Rarawa.

The board of trustees will be constituted under section 94 of the Education Act 1989.

This notice takes effect on the date of publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
