Notice of Proposals to Alter Geographic Names

Pursuant to section 16 of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008 (“Act”), the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (“Board”) hereby gives notice of proposals to alter existing geographic names, as specified in the Schedule below.

Submissions on these proposed altered geographic names may be made on the forms linked from: http://www.linz.govt.nz/regulatory/place-names/place-name-consultation, by email to: nzgbsubmissions@linz.govt.nz, or by writing to the Secretary of the New Zealand Geographic Board, c/o Land Information New Zealand, PO Box 5501, Wellington 6145.

In accordance with section 17 of the Act submissions must state with reasons whether the proposal is supported or objected to, and if an objection is made then submissions may set out an alternative proposal, or support the existing name.

A stream flowing for approximately 5.5km generally westwards from the valley north of Breast Peak, then northwest through John Creek (village) (proposed name) into Lake Hāwea, Central Otago. NZTopo50-CA13 115567 to 075556. Alteration from Johns Creek (recorded name).

Bay

A large bay on the east coast of the North Island, south of Gisborne (town), bounded on its seaward side between Tuaheni Point (NZTopo50-BG43 409034) to Young Nicks Head (Te Kuri) (NZTopo50-BG43 322985). Centred at NZTopo50-BG43 343033. Alteration from Poverty Bay (recorded name).
