Tariff (CPTPP) Amendment Order 2018

Notice is hereby given of the making of an order amending the New Zealand Tariff, pursuant to section 9 of the Tariff Act 1988, to implement the preferential tariff rates that will apply to imported goods under the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The order also sets out a new concession that exempts from customs duty goods re-entered after repair and alteration in a CPTPP Party.

1. Title of order

This order is the Tariff (CPTPP) Amendment Order 2018.

2. Commencement

The order will come into force on 30 December 2018.

3. Effect of order

This order amends the Tariff by implementing the Preferential Tariff rates agreed to by the New Zealand Government in the CPTPP, done at Santiago, Chile on 8 March 2018.

On 30 December 2018 traders from CPTPP-specified countries that meet the rules of origin and other applicable requirements will have the Preferential Tariff rate set out in the Order.

The order also sets out a new concession for a class of goods described as “Goods Re-entered after Repair or Alteration”, for CPTPP parties by amending Concession Reference Number 66.
