Notice of Application to Register a Trade Name Product (Notice No. MPI 802)

Maree Zinzley, Manager Approvals Operations, of the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), acting under delegated authority from the Director-General of MPI, gives notice, under section 14(1) of the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Act 1997 (“Act”), that the following application has been made to register a trade name product under section 9(1) of the Act:

Trade Name: Effipro Duo for Cats

Reference: A11480-01

Active Ingredients and Concentrations:

Fipronil 50mg (100mg)
Pyriproxyfen 60mg (120mg)
For (very large) cats 1–6kg (6–12 kg)

Formulation Type: Non-aqueous solution

General Use Claim:

One application treats and prevents infestation by fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) for 6 weeks and by ticks (Haemaphysalis longicornis) for 2 weeks.

Prevents flea eggs from developing into adult fleas for 12 weeks.

Wetting the coat twice during the efficacy period does not reduce effectiveness against fleas. The impact of shampooing on product effectiveness has not been investigated. If a cat requires shampooing it is recommended that this is done before application.

Treats and controls Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD) by eliminating fleas. To control FAD, apply monthly to the affected cat and treat all other cats and dogs in the household. Animals with severe FAD may require additional veterinary treatment.
