Application to Take Marine Mammals

Pursuant to section 5 of the Marine Mammals Protection
Act 1978, the Department of Conservation notifies that the following application was received from the Otago Museum Trust Board on 18 February 2014 to:
(a) export the following for temporary display in an exhibition at the Shanghai Natural History Museum, Shanghai, China:
(i) New Zealand fur seal (Arctocephalus forsteri) skin as artefact parts x 2.
(ii) New Zealand sea lion (Phocarctos hookeri) skull x 1.
(iii) Leopard seal (Hydrurga leptonyx) skull x 1.
(iv) Southern elephant seal (Mirounga leonina) bone x 1.
(v) Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) bone
x 1.
(vi) Hectors dolphin (Cephalorhynchus hectori) bone x 1.
(vii) Sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) teeth as artefacts x 3.
(viii) Great White (Carcharodon carcharias) shark tooth as artefact x 1.
(ix) bone artefacts (Cetacea spp) x 15.

Any person wishing to make a submission on this application can do so by writing to Martin Carter, Department of Conservation, Hamilton Service Centre, Private Bag 3072, Hamilton 3240, within 28 days after publication of this notice.
Unless a person making a submission states to the contrary in the submission, that person will be deemed to give his/her consent to the release under the Official Information Act 1982 of all the information in the submission.
