Pursuant to section 79 of the Hazardous Substances and
New Organisms Act 1996 ("HSNO Act"), the Environmental
Protection Authority (EPA) gives notice that it intends to apply for approval of the code of practice HSNOCOP 55 Storage of Explosives.
The purpose of this code of practice is to:
(a) Provide a means of compliance with the requirements of the Hazardous Substances (Classes 1 to 5 Controls) Regulations 2001 for the storage of class 1 hazardous substances (explosives).
(b) Provide a standard for the design and construction
of containers, that are magazines, for the storage of class 1 substances.
(c) Provide a standard for the construction of readily moveable containers for the storage of class 1 substances.
(d) Provide a means of compliance with the requirements to control adverse effects of unintended initiation of class 1 substances at a hazardous substances location.
