Permission to Export Possums and Wallabies (Notice No. 1423)

Possum (family Phalangeridae) and wallaby (family Macropodidae) are unwanted organisms under the Biosecurity Act 1993 (“the Act”).
Section 52 of the Act makes it an offence to knowingly spread unwanted organisms, and section 53 imposes a duty on owners of unwanted organisms not to sell or offer those organisms for sale.
Under sections 52 (d) and 53 (2) of the Act, a chief technical officer may permit persons to carry out acts prohibited by sections 52 and 53.
I give notice that, by the authority granted to me under sections 52 and 53 of the Act, I permit the export of possums (family Phalangeridae) and wallabies (family Macropodidae) from New Zealand.
Dated at Wellington this 29th day of April 2005.
DEBORAH PEARSON, Chief Technical Officer.
