ANGLERS NOTICE FOR FISH AND GAME REGIONS


CONSERVATION ACT 1987
FRESHWATER FISHERIES REGULATIONS 1983

Pursuant to section 26R (3) of the Conservation Act 1987, the Minister of Conservation approves the following anglers notice, subject to the First and Second Schedules of this notice, for the following
Fish and Game Regions:

Northland Nelson / Marlborough
Auckland / Waikato North Canterbury
Eastern West Coast
Taranaki Central South Island
Hawke's Bay Otago
Wellington Southland

NOTICE

This notice shall come into force on the 1st day of October 2004.

First Schedule Fishing conditions generally common to all Fish and Game Regions.

Second Schedule Regional specific fishing conditions, bag limits, closed and open waters, and the like.


FIRST SCHEDULE

1. INTERPRETATION

Words and expressions in this notice, which are defined in the Conservation Act 1987 or the Freshwater Fisheries Regulations 1983, shall be so defined.

"Artificial fly" means any lure of feather, fur, wool or other material of any kind customarily used in the making of artificial flies.

"Bait" means:

Natural fly.
Natural insect.
Natural spider.
Natural worm or worms.
Natural crustacean.
Natural fish (excluding fish ova, or any portion of a fish, or shellfish (mollusc).
Uncoloured bread dough.

"Bait assembly" means either a hook rigged with a number of baits, or a single bait rigged with a number of hooks.

"Bait fishing" means to fish for sports fish with bait.

"Boat" means any manned flotation device.

"Coarse fish" means perch, tench (all New Zealand) and rudd (Auckland / Waikato Fish and Game Region only).

"Coarse fishing waters" means named locations where anglers can fish for coarse fish:

with a rod which has either a fixed or running line.
with no restriction on the type or number of baits in use.
with no restriction on the use of preparations to attract fish.

"Flyfishing" means to fish for sports fish with fly rod and fly reel and fly line and artificial fly.

"Fishing" and "fish" in this notice means:

The catching, taking, or harvesting of sports fish; and includes:

(a) any other activity that may reasonably be expected to result in the catching, taking or harvesting of sports fish.
(b) any attempt to catch, take or harvest sports fish.
(c) any operation in support of, or in preparation for, any activity described in this definition.

"Foulhook" means to hook a sports fish other than from within the mouth.

"Landmark" means a black, yellow and white ringed post or buoy.

"Length" is the measurement from the tip of the snout to the fork of the tail.

"Lure" means any authorised artificial fly or spinner or bait.

"Spinner" means any artificial lure other than an artificial fly.

"Spin fishing" means to fish for sports fish with a spinner.

"Sports fish" means those freshwater fish described in the First Schedule of the Freshwater Fisheries Regulations 1983, namely:

Brown trout.
Rainbow trout.
American brook trout or char.
Lake trout or char.
Atlantic salmon.
Quinnat or chinook salmon.
Sockeye salmon.
Perch.
Tench.
Rudd (Auckland / Waikato Fish and Game Region only).
Any hybrid of the above species.

2. AUTHORISED TACKLE

2.1 No licence holder shall fish for sports fish except by using a rod and running line and authorised lure.


2.2 Nets and gaffs:

2.2.1 When playing a sports fish, a landing net may be used to secure or land that fish.
2.2.2 For keeping Coarse fish alive, a keep net may be used in the water from which the fish was caught.
2.2.3 When playing a salmon, a gaff may be used to secure or land that salmon in the North Canterbury and Otago regions only.

2.3 No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall:

2.3.1 Use more than 1 assembled rod and running line.
2.3.2 Use more than 3 artificial flies or spinners.
2.3.3 Use more than 1 bait assembly.
2.3.4 Be more than 15 metres from the rod being used.
2.3.5 Use any lure treated with any chemical preparation other than that used solely to control the buoyancy of an artificial fly.
2.3.6 Use any preparation to attract fish.

3. FOUL HOOKING OF FISH

3.1 No licence holder shall attempt to foul hook any sports fish.

3.2 Any licence holder who foul hooks a sports fish shall return it immediately to the water with as little injury as possible.

4. FISH LENGTH

Every licence holder who catches a sports fish which does not exceed the specified minimum length, or does exceed the specified maximum length, shall immediately return it with as little injury as possible into the water from which it was taken.

5. OPEN SEASON

No licence holder shall fish for any sports fish except during an open season.

6. DAILY LIMIT BAGS

6.1 No licence holder shall continue to fish for a particular species of sports fish on any day in which he or she has already killed the limit bag for that species.

6.2 It shall be permissible to make up the difference between a lesser limit bag prescribed in one place and a higher limit bag prescribed in another.

7. AUTHORISED LURES

Authorised lures (subject to any regional restrictions specified in the Second Schedule) are:

Artificial fly.
Spinner.
Bait.

SECOND SCHEDULE


NORTHLAND FISH AND GAME REGION

1. DEFINITIONS

See First Schedule.

2. OPEN SEASON

2.1 All lakes and reservoirs in region. All Year

2.2 All rivers and streams in region. 1 October to 30 April

3. CLOSED WATERS

No restrictions.

4. AUTHORIZED TACKLE

4.1 Any Downrigger or other device shall not contain or have attached to its weight more than
30m of suspension cable and it is prohibited to attach any paravane or weights to a line used in conjunction with a downrigger, or use any line containing wire, lead or other metal in conjunction with a downrigger.

5. FLYFISHING ONLY WATERS

No restrictions.

6. BAIT FISHING WATERS

6.1 Bait fishing (as defined in the First Schedule) is permitted in all lakes and reservoirs.

6.2 Bait fishing is permitted in the Waitangi River only when fishing for tench.

7. COARSE FISHING WATERS

7.1 The only public coarse fishing water in the Northland Region is the Waitangi River and its tributaries.

8. USE OF BOATS

8.1 Anglers trolling from boats must stay at least 50 metres from any anglers fishing from the shore.


9. DAILY BAG LIMITS

9.1 All Rivers and Streams

No licence holder shall on any one day kill more than two trout.

There is no daily bag limit for tench or perch.

9.2 All Lakes and Reservoirs

No licence holder shall on any one day kill more than three trout.

There is no daily bag limit for tench or perch.

10. FISH LENGTH

10.1 The minimum length for trout 300mm

AUCKLAND / WAIKATO FISH AND GAME REGION

3. CLOSED WATERS

3.1 Subject to Section 3.2 of this Schedule, no licence holder shall fish for sports fish from the following waters:

All rivers, streams and their tributaries which flow into but not including Lake Arapuni, Lake Waipapa, Lake Karapiro and that part of the Waikato River downstream from the Maraetai Dam to above the Karapiro Dam.

3.2 The closed waters restrictions in Section 3.1 of this Schedule do not apply to the following waters:

Mangawhio Stream and tributaries.
Pokaiwhenua Stream and tributaries.
Waipa Stream and tributaries.
Waikato River.
Waipapa River and tributaries.


4. AUTHORISED TACKLE

No licence holder, when fishing in the Auckland / Waikato Fish and Game Region, shall use as a bait any fish taken from any water other than in which it is being used as a bait.

5. FLYFISHING ONLY WATERS

5.1 Flyfishing is the only fishing method for sports fish allowed in the following waters and their tributaries:

Awakino River from its source to the Mahoenui Bridge.
Kakahu Stream (north-east of Okoroire).
Kaniwhaniwha Stream.
Mangatutu Stream from its source to the Lethbridge Road Bridge.
Ngakoaohia Stream from its source to the bridge on Pirongia-Kawhia roadway.

5.2 Flyfishing and spin fishing are the only fishing methods for sports fish allowed in the following waters:

Mangatangi Reservoir.
Mangatawhiri Reservoir.
All waters not specified in Sections 5.1, 6 and 7.1 of this Schedule.

6. BAIT FISHING WATERS

Bait fishing is permitted in the following waters, excluding tributaries:

Waikato River.
Lake Arapuni.
Lake Karapiro.
Lake Moananui.
Lake Otamatearoa (Muirs).
Lake Ototoa.
Lake Parkinson.
Lake Tomarata.
Lake Waipapa.
Lake Whatihua (Thomsons).
Ohinemuri River downstream from the Victoria Street Bridge at Waihi.
Ongarue River downstream from its confluence with the Waimiha Stream.
Marokopa River downstream from its confluence with the Mangatuahaua Stream.
Moakurarua Stream downstream from Mulligans Bridge (Honikiwi Road).
Waihou River downstream from the Okoroire Falls.
Waipa River downstream from the State Highway No. 3 Bridge at Otorohanga.
Whanganui River downstream from its confluence with the Whakapapa River.

7. COARSE FISHING WATERS

7.1 The following waters are designated coarse fishing waters:

Mangatawhiri River from the bridge on State Highway No. 2 to its confluence with the Waikato River.
Whangamarino River.
All lakes and ponds, excluding the Mangatangi Reservoir, Mangatawhiri Reservoir and any lake specified in Section 6 of this part of this Schedule.
7.2 There are no restrictions on the numbers of rods and running lines that a licence holder fishing for perch, tench or rudd may have assembled provided only one of which shall be used for fishing at any one time.

8. USE OF BOATS

No licence holder shall fish for sports fish from any vessel in that part of the Waikato River between the Arapuni Dam and the upper limits of Lake Karapiro (as shown by the white marker post, situated 200m below the Huihuitaha Stream mouth) unless that vessel is securely anchored at all material times.

9. DAILY BAG LIMIT OF KILLED SPORTS FISH

9.1 No more than 2 trout per day:

Awakino River.
Lake Karapiro.
Waipa River and its tributaries upstream from the State Highway No. 3 bridge at Otorohanga.

9.2 No more than 2 brown trout per day. Nil rainbow trout. All rainbow trout taken must be immediately released back into the water from which they have been caught:

Whakapapa River and its tributaries upstream from the confluence with the Piopiotea Stream.

9.3 No bag limit except that only 2 trout may exceed 30cm in length:

Waihou River and its tributaries upstream from Okoroire.
Waimakariri Stream and its tributaries.

9.4 No more than 5 trout or tench per day:

All waters except those specified in Sections 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3 of this Schedule.

9.5 There is no bag limit on perch or rudd in all waters.

10. FISH LENGTH

The minimum length for trout taken shall be 30cm in all waters except in the Waihou River upstream from Okoroire and the Waimakariri Stream where there is no minimum length.



EASTERN FISH AND GAME REGION

1. INTERPRETATION

"Fly line" in the Eastern Region means any floating or sinking line used to facilitate casting that is greater than 3 metres in length.

"Set rod" means any assembled rod that is not in physical contact with a licence holder when being used to fish for sports fish.

"Wild rainbow trout" means any rainbow trout not having a fin clip mark or tag.

Bag limits denoted by 8* mean no licence holder shall kill more than 2 brown trout in a daily bag limit of 8 trout.

3. CLOSED WATERS

No licence holder shall fish for sports fish at any time from the following waters:

3.1 All streams flowing into Lake Tarawera and that portion of the Tarawera River enclosed by landmarks at the Lake Tarawera Outlet and extending approximately 150m downstream to landmarks in the river, otherwise known as the Tarawera Outlet Spawning Sanctuary;

3.2 The Utuhina Stream above the Pukehangi Road bridge and all tributaries of this stream;

3.3 The following streams and their tributaries which flow into Lake Rotorua:

a) the Waiowhiro, Waiohewa, Waingaehe, Waimata and Waikuta Streams.
b) the Hamurana stream above the Hamurana Road bridge.
c) the Awahou Stream above the Hamurana Road bridge.

3.4 All springs, streams, and their tributaries which flow into Lake Waikareiti, and into or from Lakes Rotoma, Rotoehu, Rotomahana, Rerewhakaaitu, Rotokakahi, Okareka, Okataina and Rotoiti except the Ohau Channel and the Kaituna River.

3.5 The section of the Ruahihi Canal between the landmarks at the southern end of the canal which enclose the artificial spawning bed.

4. AUTHORISED TACKLE

4.1 No licence holder shall fish for sports fish with a set rod unless he or she is fishing from an unanchored boat.

4.2 Any downrigger or other device shall not contain or have attached to its weight more than 40 metres of suspension cable; and it is prohibited to attach any paravane or weights to a line used in conjunction with a downrigger, or use any line containing wire, lead or other metal in conjunction with a downrigger.

4.3 Downriggers, paravanes, weights to assist sinking of trolled lures and metal cored or wire lines are prohibited in Lakes Waikaremoana and Waikareiti.

5. BAIT FISHING WATERS

5.1 No licence holder when fishing in bait fishing waters shall use any whole fish sourced from any water other than that where the fishing is occurring

6. COARSE FISHING WATERS

There are no defined coarse fishing waters in the Eastern Region.

7. USE OF BOATS

7.1 No licence holder shall fish for trout from a boat in the following waters:

a) that section of the Tarawera Outlet enclosed by landmarks;
b) the designated winter shoreline-fishing areas on Lakes Tarawera, Rotoiti and Okataina (Schedule 2 Clause 2) from July 1 to September 30.

Note 1) No boats are allowed to pass through the Tarawera Outlet Spawning Sanctuary at any time.
2) No boats are permitted under Navigation Safety Rules to anchor in the Ohau Channel

7.2 No licence holder shall fish for trout from any unanchored boat:

(a) in waters that, at any time of the year, are reserved for artificial fly fishing.
(b) in waters that are within a 200m radius around the centre of the Utuhina, Waiteti, Ngongotaha and Hamurana Stream mouths in Lake Rotorua.
(c) in waters that are within the section of Rangiuru Bay defined by landmarks at Stoney Point and Kariri Point and extending 200m offshore in Lake Tarawera.
(d) Boats should be securely anchored with no more than two anchors.


8. MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM LENGTH TO BE TAKEN

8.1 Lakes Waikaremoana, Kaitawa, Whakamarino (Tuai) and Waikareiti, and the Rotorua Lakes (excluding Lake Okataina) and their inflowing tributary streams. 350mm minimum
8.2 Lake Okataina. 550mm minimum
8.3 Ruakituri River and tributaries above Waitangi Falls. 600mm maximum
8.4 All other waters. No minimum size limit

8.5 No licence holder shall keep or kill any wild rainbow trout larger than 650mm caught in Lake Tarawera, including that section of the Tarawera River between the Tarawera Outlet and the falls approximately 2500m downstream from the Outlet.

9. HOURS OF FISHING

No licence holder shall fish for any sports fish between 12.00 midnight and 5.00 a.m.

2.3 The following waters are open from 1 October - 30 April
and then from 1 June - 30 September:

(i) Lake Rotorangi from the dam face to Mangamingi Bridge.
(ii) Lake Ratapiko, except the inlet race.
(iii) Lahar Lake.

2.4 The following waters are open from 1 October - 20 April and then from
10 July - 30 September:

(i) Lake Wiritoa.
(ii) Lake Pauri.

2.5 All other waters in the region are open from 1 October - 30 April.
CLOSED WATERS

No restriction.

4. FLY FISHING ONLY WATERS

The following waters are restricted to fly fishing only:

(i) Lake Mangamahoe, including the Waiwhakaiho inlet.

5. BAIT FISHING WATERS

Baits specified in the First Schedule can be used in all waters of the Taranaki Region EXCEPT:

(i) Lake Mangamahoe, including the Waiwhakaiho inlet.
(ii) Mangaoraka Stream from the bridge at Te Arei Road West upstream to the bridge at Corbett Road.
(iii) Kaiauai Stream upstream of the bridge at Alfred Road.
(iv) Kapuni Stream upstream from the bridge at Skeet Road.
(v) Stony (Hangatahua) River from its source to the sea.

These waters are restricted to fly fishing only (i), or to fly and spin fishing only (ii - v).

6. COARSE FISHING WATERS

There are no coarse fishing waters in the Taranaki Region.

7. USE OF BOATS

No licence holder shall fish for sports fish from a boat in Lake Mangamahoe, including the Waiwhakaiho inlet.

8. DAILY LIMIT BAG

8.1 No licence holder shall on any day take, kill or be in possession of more than 1 sports fish from the following waters, provided that any sports fish more than 400mm in length taken shall be immediately released with as little injury as possible back into the water from which it had been taken:

(i) Mangaoraka Stream from the bridge at Te Arei Road West upstream to the bridge at Corbett Road.
(ii) Kaiauai Stream upstream of the bridge at Alfred Road.
(iii) Kapuni Stream upstream from the bridge at Skeet Road.

8.2 Stony (Hangatahua) River Special Regulations

(i) No licence holder shall on any day take, kill or be in possession of any brown trout. All brown trout caught must be released immediately back into the Stony River with as little injury as possible.
(ii) No licence holder shall on any day kill or be in possession of more than two (2) rainbow trout.


8.3 No licence holder shall on any day kill more than two (2) sports fish, other than perch, from the following waters:

(i) Lake Ngangana.
(ii) Lake Wiritoa.
(iii) Lake Namunamu.
(iv) Raetihi Hydro Dam.
(v) Lahar Lake.
(vi) Manganuioteao River and its tributaries.
(vii) All waters originating on the slopes of Mount Egmont/Taranaki, including Lakes Mangamahoe, Rotomanu, Opunake, Ratapiko and Rotorangi, but excluding waters specified in Sections 8.1 and 8.2 of this notice and the Waingongoro River downstream from Eltham Road.

8.4 No licence holder shall on any day kill more than four (4) sports fish, other than perch, from all other waters in the region.

8.5 There shall be no limit on the number of perch killed by a licence holder.

9. FISH LENGTH

There is no length limit for sports fish caught in the Taranaki Fish and Game Region, except of the maximum length limit in Section 8.1.

SPECIAL LICENCES FOR THE DISABLED

The Taranaki Fish and Game Region is authorised to issue special licences authorising any disabled person, within the meaning of the Disabled Persons Employment Act 1960, to fish for sports fish by any means that would otherwise be unlawful.

5. LENGTH LIMITS

5.1 There is no minimum length limit for sports fish taken in the Wellington Fish and Game Region.

5.2 No licence holder shall take or have in his or her possession any trout, which exceeds 550mm in length in the following waters:

Rangitikei River and its tributaries upstream from the Matawhero Road bridge (commonly called the Mangaohane Bridge).
Hautapu River upstream from the road bridge numbered 741/10.96 on State Highway 1 by the Taihape Golf Club.

There are no fly fishing only waters in the West Coast Region.

6. BAIT FISHING

Permitted in all waters.


7. COARSE FISHING WATERS

There are no special conditions relating to coarse fishing other than those provided for in the First Schedule to this notice.

8. BOATS

There are no special conditions relating to the use of boats for angling.

9. DAILY BAG LIMITS

9.1 No licence holder shall on any day take, kill or be in possession of more than four sports fish, of which not more than two may be trout taken from the following waters:

10. FISH LENGTH

10.1 The minimum length for trout and salmon in the following waters shall be 250mm.

In all other waters there shall be no minimum length.

1. INTERPRETATION

In this notice:

"Ashburton Lakes" means Lakes Clearwater, Denny, Donn, Emily, Emma, Heron, Maori Lakes, Roundabout, Spider and their tributaries but does not include Lake Camp.

"Upper Waitaki Lakes" means Lakes Waitaki, Aviemore, Benmore, Middleton, Ohau, Ruataniwha including Wairepo Arm and Kellands Pond, Pukaki and Tekapo.

"Waitaki Hydro Canals" means Ohau æB'-Ohau æC', Pukaki-Ohau, Ruataniwha-Ohau æB' and
Tekapo-Pukaki canals.

"Winter Fishing Rivers" means the Ashburton, Rangitata, Opihi and Waitaki rivers below their State Highway No. 1 bridges and does not include their tributaries.

3.3.2 In Lake Stream between 1 April and 30 April.

4. AUTHORISED TACKLE

4.1 No licence holder when fishing for sportsfish shall use any unsportsmanlike device or method.

4.2 A licence holder when fishing for sportsfish in the Rangitata River or its tributaries:

4.2.1 May use, seaward of a line drawn between the 2 poles situated near the upstream limit of the estuarine area, an artificial fly only if the total weight of everything attached to the cast does not exceed 28g.
4.2.2 May cast other than from the reel or retrieve other than by winding the reel only when using bait or fly fishing, or when fishing with an artificial fly seaward of a line drawn between the 2 poles situated near the upstream limit of the estuarine area.

4.3 Down riggers, paravanes, metal cored or wire lines and weights to assist sinking of trolled lures are prohibited in Lake Alexandrina.

8.1 Fishing from boats is prohibited in:

Wairepo Arm of Lake Ruataniwha.
That part of the region seaward of the Rangitata River mouth, except from an anchored boat between the hours of 7.00 a.m. and 9.00 p.m. on any day at a seaward distance greater than 200m from the nearest shore at low tide. The seaward boundary of the Central South Island Region around the Rangitata River mouth is a line drawn at a distance of 500m from any place where at low tide the waters of the river meet the waters of the sea.

8.2 Fishing from any unmoored boat is prohibited in:

Lake Emma.
Lake MacGregor.
Lake Middleton.
Maori Lakes.

9. DAILY LIMIT BAGS

9.1 All waters within the region other than those stated in sections 9.2, 9.3, 9.4 and 9.5 of this notice shall have a daily limit bag of 4 sportsfish of which no more than 2 may be salmon and no more than 2 may be trout.

10. MINIMUM LENGTH

The minimum length for salmon killed in waters of the region shall be 300mm except in Lake Heron where the minimum length shall be 250mm and for the period 1 March to 30 April the maximum length shall be 450mm.

3. CLOSED SEASON

Fishing for sports fish is not permitted at any time in the following specified waters:

Bullock Creek, from Lake Wanaka to source.
Horne Creek, from Lake Wakatipu to source.
Lake Wakatipu, within the waters of Queenstown Bay bounded by a straight line drawn from the outermost point of Queenstown Gardens to the point where the south bank of One Mile Creek meets Lake Wakatipu.
Lake Wanaka, within 150m of any part of the launch wharf at the township of Wanaka, within 150m of any part of the public jetty at the Wanaka Marina, and anywhere within 150m of the shoreline between the wharf and the jetty.
Lake Wakatipu, within 100m of any part of the wharf in Black Bay (commonly known as the Walter Peak Jetty).
Lochy River catchment upstream from the Billy Creek confluence.
Mill Creek (which flows into Lake Hayes), from the Speargrass Flat Road bridge to the source.
All waters in which sports fish are held in captivity for display, hatching or other purposes, or within a distance of 100m from any part of the outer boundaries of such waters.

4. AUTHORISED TACKLE

5. FLY FISHING ONLY WATERS

Refer to 2.1.

6. BAIT FISHING WATERS

6.1 Refer to 2.1.

6.2 No person shall fish with float or floating device on the line in that section of the Clutha River from below the Roxburgh Dam to the Roxburgh Township Bridge.

7. COARSE FISHING WATERS

There are no designated coarse fishing waters in Otago.

8. USE OF BOATS

8.1 No anglers shall fish from, or tow any lure from, any boat which is being mechanically propelled on Lake Dispute, Lake Hayes, Lake Johnson, Moke Lake or Reid Lake.

8.2 No anglers shall fish from a boat on Lake Kirkpatrick.

8.3 Subject to subclause (4) of this clause, anglers fishing from boats, which are being mechanically propelled, must stay at least 100m from any anglers fishing from the shore.

8.4 No anglers in fishing for sports fish shall troll from any boat, which is being mechanically propelled on any river or stream except the Taieri River downstream from Henley Ferry Bridge, the Waipori River downstream from the Contour Channel and the Clutha River downstream from Balclutha.

8.5 No anglers shall fish for trout from any boat, canoe, pontoon or any flotation device on any river or stream except:

Clutha River from Albertown Bridge to the sea.
Matukituki River from Glenfinnan Stream confluence to Lake Wanaka.
The Taieri River from Outram to the sea.
Waipori River from Contour Channel confluence to the Taieri River confluence.
All tidal reaches of rivers.

9. DAILY LIMIT BAG

9.1 Except in the case of perch for which there is no daily limit, no person shall on any one day take and kill or be in possession of more than the prescribed daily limit from the waters specified in 2.1.


9.2 No more than 2 salmon:

All waters below the Roxburgh Dam and all waters running into the sea.

9.3 No more than 6 sports fish per day:

Subject to the restrictions set out in 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 9.1 and 9.2 above, no person shall on any
1 day take or kill or be in possession of more than 6 sports fish per day from any waters except Lake Onslow (refer to 2.1).

10. FISH LENGTH

No person shall take or be in possession of any salmon less than 450mm taken from the Clutha River or its tributaries below Roxburgh Dam and all other waters running into the sea. In all other waters there shall be no minimum length.

11. GREENSTONE BACKCOUNTRY FISHERY

11.1 The Greenstone backcountry fishery is hereby declared to be fisheries experimental waters [s26R(5) Conservation Act 1987].

11.2 The Greenstone River and Caples River are part of the Greenstone backcountry fishery (which means the Greenstone River catchment) as defined in the Sports Fish Licences, Fees and Forms Notice 2004 and the provisions of that notice apply to this notice.

3. CLOSED WATERS

3.1 No person shall take sports fish from the following waters:

That portion of Lake Manapouri which lies with 100m of any part of the Fiordland Travel Company's Tourist Centre, Pearl Harbour, Manapouri.
That portion of Lake Te Anau that lies within 100m of any part of the wharf of the Fiordland Travel Company's office in the township of Te Anau.
All waters within 100m of the fish pass in the Mararoa Weir (Manapouri Lake Control Structure).

3.2 No person shall take (or attempt to take) salmon from the following waters:

That portion of the Waiau River that lies between the confluence with the Monowai River the Manapouri Lake Control structure.
The Mararoa River.
Any river during the months of Apr and May.

8. USE OF BOATS

8.1 No person shall fish from any motorised boat in Lake Thomas.


8.2 No person shall fish from any boat or any form of flotation device in:

The Eglinton River.
The Mararoa River.
The Mataura River upstream from the Mataura Island bridge.
The Oreti River upstream of the State Highway No 94 bridge just north of Lumsden.
The Waiau River from the confluence of the Monowai River to the Mararoa Weir.
The Waikaia River.

9. DAILY LIMIT BAGS

9.1 Subject to Clause 3.2 no person shall in any one day take, kill or be in possession of more than
1 salmon from any waters of the region.

9.2 With the exception of perch for which there is no limit, no person shall on any one day take, kill or be in possession of more than 4 sports fish.

10. FISH LENGTH

No restriction on all waters except for Trophy Trout Zones as described in Clause 2 of this notice.
