In accordance with section 74(1)(b) of the Legislation Act 2019 and section 161(3) of the Land Transport Act 1998 (as it applied before 28 October 2021), notification is hereby given of the making of Land Transport Rule: Street Layouts 2023 (“Rule”).

The objective of the Rule is to—

1. empower road controlling authorities to prohibit or restrict access to roadways and to change the use of roadways, including by creating school streets; and
2. empower road controlling authorities to install, as a pilot, street layout changes on a road as a form of consultation; and
3. set out rules for the authorisation of, access to and use of community streets.

The Rule comes into force on 21 August 2023. The Rule also amends the Land Transport Rule: Traffic Control Devices 2004 and Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2022.
