Pursuant to section 5 of the Industry Training and Apprenticeships Act 1992, MITO is recognised as an industry training organisation for the following specified industries:
- Motor;
- Industrial Textile Fabrication;
- Commercial Road Transport (including State Sector and New Zealand Defence Force for road transport-related operations);
- Stevedoring and Ports;
- Road Transport Logistics and Warehousing;
- Freight Forwarding and Distribution;
- Extractives;
- Drilling;
- Gas; and
- Resource Recovery.
A condition of this recognition is that MITO satisfies the Tertiary Education Commission by 30 June 2019 that it has taken reasonable steps to avoid fragmentation and to provide a clear and representative motor industry focus.
The recognition takes effect from 20 October 2018.
