Notice of Intention to Apply for Approval of

Code of Practice
Pursuant to section 79 of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, the Environmental Risk Management Authority gives notice that
NZ Extractive Industries Training Organisation (EXITO)
intends to apply for the approval of the Code of Practice
for the Approved Handler’s Certificates Explosives.
This code of practice specifies the requirements for persons intending to become approved handlers of explosives.
Regulation 5 of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (Personnel Qualifications) Regulations 2001
(as amended) specifies the matters that a person must
know and be able to describe before being appointed as an approved handler.
This proposed code of practice offers a means of compliance with Regulations 5 (1) (a), 5 (1) (b), 5 (1) (d), 5 (1) (h), 5 (1) (i) and 5 (2) of these Regulations.

Submissions close on 30 November 2005.
A copy of the code can be inspected at the Christchurch office of EXITO (First Floor, ITO House, 96 Oxford Terrace) or at the Wellington office of ERMA New Zealand (Level One,
BP House, 20 Customhouse Quay).
